Opening a trust account can be daunting. Several questions were answered to my understanding.

Interest rate is only average as of 3/1/12. The .25% "loyalty bonus" makes it more appealing but I found a number of local community banks that pay a higher rate even when taking into consieration the loyalty bonus. The bank is rigid and inflexible and no one with decision authority is available. The customer service reps and their supervisiors go by a script and that is it. They do not know who or how to get to you someone that can make decisions. I was told I would hear back in 24 hrs., three days latter I called when nothing was heard and was told my question was still sitting in a queing box. It is now eight days and still nothing from anyone with authority. I am a rather large customer with over $400k in this bank; by th end of this week that money will be in another bank. I have found more than a half-dozen banks that not only answered the question but will accommodate my request to which I could not an one in authority to respond to. Another point, although held-out as a bank it is on-line banking and basic banking services such as wire transfers are not available and I find that unappealing. I do not want delay in moving my money because you loose interest while your money is "in transit" and a wire transfer in virtually instantaneous. I am willing to pay for the service but this so-called bank will not provide it.

After all the years Ive been with Ally, this is the first time I've had a terrible experience with customer service chat associates trying to close a maturing 2 yr CD. After speaking to Scott and Linda in separate chats to simply close my CD and move the money to my MM account, they told me it would take several days 5 to 7 biz days at least. to complete my request due to high volume and being backed up on these types of requests. I found that hard to believe. Just a week earlier I closed out a CD with no issues and money moved the following day. I felt like I got the round around on a bunch of nonsense. The funds are rather time sensitive as I want to use it to pay some bills soon and open an IRA. Treat your loyal customers with respect or you will lose me, and others.

I love the rates, but I HATE that I can't control closing/updating CDs. I know it can be done, because ING allows that feature. If their rates improve, I will move all of my money to have that control.

If you want a bank that occassionally has long delays generating statements, that occassionally has errors in interest calculations, that has year to date accrual amounts that don't match individual postings, then Ally is the bank for you. Suffice it to say, I am not happy with Ally's ability to produce timely and accurate statements.

I commend Ally for making it easy to get answers and help online and by phone. The 2 customer service reps I spoke with were so knowledgeable and courteous that I now plan to open another kind of account at Ally. Great job!

It is one of the highest interest rates a CD can earn right now. i believe I did a good deal here.

By far the best rates around and the bank is super easy to deal with! I've never been so happy with a financial institution before, especially in these uncertain times!
