A 1997 graduate of Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS with a B.S. in business finance, Hoover ran several small businesses, before rejoining his family’s dealership in 2005.
“My brothers and I grew up in the business,” he said. “Each of us spent our summers washing cars and tending the lot.”
In 2005, Hoover’s father, Glenn, wanted to sell the store, which he founded in 1990, and he asked Hoover and his two brothers, Kelly and Corey, if they were interested in continuing the family business.
“The dealership had treated us very well for many years and running the store was something that we knew we could do and enjoy, so we became partners,” he said. Over the next several years, the trio, with the help of partner Gabe Goering, were able to grow the business and today, Midway Motors encompasses five Kansas dealerships in McPherson, Hutchinson, Newton and Hillsboro, representing brands Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, Ford, GMC, Jeep, Lincoln and Ram.
“We have been able to succeed through hard work and staying true to the founding principles that were established by our father and his key managers,” Hoover said. “It has been rewarding to watch our foundational beliefs practiced and extended to our new locations. That takes dedicated employees who are committed to the company philosophy.”
With such deep roots in the McPherson area, Hoover gives back to his community by holding blood drives for the American Red Cross and Ford Drive 4 UR School test-drive events that raise money for local schools. Recently, his dealerships launched a breast cancer awareness initiative that generated funds for Women and Children Combating Cancer in McPherson County; Cancer Council of Reno County; Central Care Cancer Center; and community members affected by cancer.
He has served in leadership positions for the McPherson Chamber of Commerce, McPherson Family YMCA and the McPherson Opera House.
“It was an honor to serve and be a part of these successful organizations,” Hoover said.
Hoover was nominated for the TIME Dealer of the Year award by Don McNeely, president of the Kansas Automobile Dealers Association. He and his wife, Tisha, have four children.
