Studies have found that taking time off can actually increase productivity in the workplace, according to The Atlantic. Yet as our infographic points out, a significant number of Americans don’t take all their vacation days.

There are a variety of reasons for this, ranging from not being able to afford to take time off, to having a spouse who can’t take time off from their job.

This behavior may simply be a byproduct of our culture’s overall outlook on work: The Atlantic notes that the United States is practically the only developed country that doesn’t require employers to give their workers time off.
