In this day and age, we have no shortage of options. Life as we know it in the U.S. is basically a choose-your-own adventure. Although it can sometimes feel like a pain, having so many options is really a privilege. It allows us to be selective and find a path we feel good about.
Among other choices you might face in life, you can choose which company you work for as an employee. And, you can choose which companies get your business as a consumer. For both decisions, one factor to consider is corporate social responsibility.
Corporate social responsibility (often shortened to CSR) refers to how a company acts in a way to better society. This includes corporate giving to charity as well as other initiatives to improve social and environmental conditions.
A commitment to CSR seems to be a growing trend across U.S. corporations, and something that gets noticed by junior employees as well as high-level executives and investors. Based on a 2015 survey of CEOs, 56% said they report environmental, social, and governance information to their investors. And, seven out of ten Millennials would be willing to take a pay cut to work for a company they feel matches their ethical and social beliefs (not that they should have to!)
We dug a bit deeper into the state of giving today, and were please to find that CSR is making a real impact!
At Ally, we think that doing it right and giving back go hand in hand. That’s why we’re dedicated to providing opportunities to give back for Ally employees throughout the year. And because we’re a little obsessive, we also dedicated an entire month to giving back.
This November marks our 5th annual Giving Back Month, which is a time when we really go all-out on the giving to build momentum and multiply our impact. Throughout the month, members of the Ally family – including employees, dealers, and customers – have been taking action, making donations, and helping to make our communities a little stronger.
The month isn’t over yet, and there’s still plenty of time to get involved. One of the easiest ways to give back with Ally is to head to social media and use the hashtag #DoGivingRight. For every post that uses #DoGivingRight, we’ll donate $5 to charity, up to $50,000 in total!
