Making a payment FAQs

  • How do I make a vehicle payment online?

    The easiest way to pay online is through Ally Auto Online Services. To make a payment once you log in:

    1. Select Make a Payment from the My Vehicles page.
    2. Select the desired account and enter the date and amount.
    3. Verify and authorize your payment.

    You can also enroll in Auto Pay and have your payments automatically withdrawn from your account monthly. Auto Pay and one-time payments are also available using Ally Auto Mobile Pay.

    Online debit card payment
    You also have the option to make a one-time online debit card payment through a third-party service provider for a fee.

  • What vehicle payment options are available?

    We offer several options, including online, mail or phone.

    Online
    Auto Pay (automatic withdrawal): Set up automatic recurring payments.

    One-time: Schedule one-time payments online or use Ally Auto Mobile Pay.

  • How are payments applied to my Ally auto account?

    When we receive your monthly payment, we first apply it to earned and unpaid finance charges that have accrued since your last payment. The remaining funds are then applied to the outstanding balance of amount financed and to the other amounts you owe under your contract in any order we choose.

  • When are late charges assessed on my Ally Auto account?

    Refer to the payment schedule in your contract to see when late charges will be assessed.

    If you need to request a copy of your contract, call Ally Auto at 1-888-925-2559 or log in to your Ally Auto Online Services account to contact us through the Message Center.

  • How do I change my payment due date?

    Please Contact Us to change your due date.

  • Can I skip or extend my auto payment?

    To learn more about extension options, and whether you may qualify, please contact an Ally Customer Care Associate at 1-888-925-Ally (2559), Monday – Friday, 7 am – 7 pm and Saturday, 9 am – 4 pm local time.

  • What happens if my payment is returned for non-sufficient funds?

    If your financial institution returns your Auto Pay or one-time payment, we will present the payment to your bank again. If your bank does not honor the payment after the second submission, that payment will be reversed from your account.

    We'll send you a communication, either by U.S. mail or email, to let you know the payment was returned. Once you have sufficient funds in your payment account, you'll need to resubmit the payment online or via the payment methods listed below.

    Phone: You can choose to make another payment by phone. A third party service fee may apply.

    Direct Pay: You can choose to mail a payment, make a payment by phone, or reestablish Direct Pay to make the past-due payment.

  • How do I request a copy of a billing statement?

    View and print up to 6 months of billing statements online any time if you're registered with Ally Auto Online Services and the account is enrolled in online billing. (Note: You can see only statements generated after you enrolled in online statements.)

    Contact Us at our 24/7 automated voice response system to request a copy of a billing statement that was mailed to you.

  • Can I make extra payments on my vehicle account?

    Yes. To make an extra payment:

    1. Log in to Ally Auto Online Services.
    2. Select Make a Payment from the My Vehicles page.
    3. Select the desired account, payment type, date and amount.
    4. Verify and authorize your payment.

    You can also make extra payments using Ally Auto Mobile Pay.

    Making extra payments will not change your scheduled Auto Pay payments. They will continue as usual on the same day each month.

  • What accounts can I use to make a payment online?

    You can use your checking or savings account. Make sure you have your bank account number and your routing number available when scheduling payments.

  • Can I view or cancel an online vehicle payment?

    To view or cancel an Ally Auto Online Services payment:

    1. Log in to Ally Auto Online Services
    2. From the My Vehicles page, select Pending Payments
    3. Find the pending payment and select Cancel

    Cancellation policy:

    • For payments scheduled for a weekday before 3 pm ET, you can cancel any time before 3 pm ET on the payment date
    • For payments scheduled for a weekday after 3 pm ET and before 6 pm ET, you can cancel any time before 6 pm ET on the payment date
    • For weekend payments, you can cancel any time before 6 pm ET on the payment date

    View or cancel an online debit card payment:

    You can view or cancel online debit card payments through the third-party service provider.

    Online debit card payments scheduled after 4 pm ET are applied on the following business day unless a different payment date is selected.

  • I attempted to make a payment, but I'm not sure if it was accepted since I didn't receive a confirmation. How can I check the status of the payment?

    You can verify the status of the payment by checking the pending payments link. If your payment is listed, rest assured your payment was successfully scheduled. If your payment is not listed, it was not scheduled. If you need to make a payment you can:

    If you choose a different payment method, and you incur a late fee or a processing fee because you were unable to schedule payment online, please contact us at 888-925-ALLY (2559). We may reimburse you for the late fees.

  • Can I make a payment without my statement?

    Yes. You can schedule payments online any time, unless you're enrolled in Direct Pay. If you mail your payment, be sure to include your name and account number on each scheduled payment. Attach a statement if you choose to use a single check to make payments on multiple accounts.

  • How do I update my payment account information?

    After you log in to Ally Auto Online Services, follow these steps:

    1. Select My Payment Accounts under Manage my profile
    2. If you need to delete an account, select the payment account you want to delete
    3. Enter new payment account information, accept authorization and select Save
  • Will I be charged a fee to make a one-time payment online?

    We don't charge a fee to make a payment through Ally Auto Online Services, but third-party bill pay sites will charge additional fees for payments made outside Ally Auto Online Services.

    The best way to ensure you're making your payment on the Ally Auto website is to type allyauto.com directly into your browser, or use your web browser favorites.

    You can also enroll in Auto Pay to have your monthly payments withdrawn directly from your checking or savings account on the day you choose.
