With approximately 90% of the U.S. population living within 10 miles of a Walmart, adding cash to your Ally Bank Spending Account is accessible and easy.

Step-by-step guide to adding cash to your Ally Bank Spending Account

With approximately 90% of the U.S. population living within 10 miles of a Walmart, this method offers a secure, convenient and free way to add cash to your Ally Bank Spending Account. Follow these steps:

Step 1: Visit a Walmart Money Center or Customer Service Desk

Head to a nearby Walmart Money Center or Customer Service Desk, after checking the hours at your local store.

Step 2: Generate your unique barcode in the Ally mobile app and present it at the counter

When you open the app, you can request a barcode for your transaction. The barcode is valid for 15 minutes, but you can generate a new one if it expires.

Once you have your barcode, show it to the associate at the counter. You may be asked to show your I.D. and your phone number.

Note: For security purposes, be sure you have location services enabled on your phone.

Step 3: Pass your cash to the associate

Once your barcode is scanned, give your cash to the associate, and it’ll be added to your account.

You can add between $20 and $1,000 of cash per day per Ally Bank Spending Account up to five times per month.

Step 4: Access your money within minutes

Typically, your cash should appear in your account within minutes.

Additional benefits of banking with Ally Bank

Along with the ability to easily add cash, an Ally Bank Spending Account offers other perks like:

  • No hidden fees and transparent banking: With an Ally Bank Spending Account, there are currently no monthly maintenance fees, overdraft fees or minimum balance requirements to earn interest

  • Early direct deposit and CoverDraft™ features: Set up direct deposit and get paid up to two days early. With CoverDraft we provide up to $250 in temporary relief if you accidentally overspend.

  • FDIC insurance: Enjoy peace of mind knowing your money is insured up to the maximum amount allowed by the law

  • Track your expenses and credit score: Organize your budget with spending buckets and monitor your credit score directly in the Ally mobile app

Keep in mind, CoverDraft is not a line of credit or a guarantee. If your purchase isn't covered for any reason (like if the transaction exceeds your limit), it will be declined — but we'll never charge you an overdraft fee.

A convenient cash option

You might like having some cash on hand if you ever need it — but it’s also important to have a way to add it to your Ally Bank Spending Account that’s free, secure and convenient for you.
