  • What is SmartAuction?

    SmartAuction is an industry-leading wholesale internet auction that offers access to a virtual inventory of used vehicles to thousands of eligible dealers of nearly all brands. More than 4 million vehicles have been sold through SmartAuction since 2000.
  • How do I sign up for SmartAuction?

    Find out about applying for access to SmartAuction by calling the SmartAuction Help Desk at 1-877-273-5572, Mon-Fri, 8 am – 7 pm ET.

  • What types of vehicles are listed on SmartAuction?

    SmartAuction offers a variety of vehicles from:

    • Original equipment manufacturers (OEM's)
    • Financial service institutions
    • Rental vehicle agencies
    • Fleet management companies
    • National and independent physical auctions
    • Select franchised and independent dealerships
  • How do I buy a vehicle on SmartAuction?

    You have 4 choices when it comes to buying vehicles on SmartAuction:

    Buy Now
    Bypass the bidding process and purchase the vehicle immediately at the Buy Now price when available (fastest and most direct way)

    Make Offer
    If the seller of the vehicle is willing to accept offers on their vehicles, the Make Offer button will be viewable. Utilize the text box next to the Place Bid button to enter your offer amount

    Manual bids must be entered in $100 increments. For example, entering $7,225 will not be accepted but $7,300 will be accepted

    Auto-Bidding allows you to set the maximum amount you are willing to pay for each vehicle. SmartAuction will then bid for you in $100 increments, if necessary, against any competing bids up to your AutoBid price

  • Where are the vehicles located?

    Auction vehicles are located at storing dealerships, central storage facilities, physical auctions, or established rental return locations. The actual location of each vehicle is listed on the vehicle detail page.

  • How do I get help for SmartAuction?

    For assistance, call the SmartAuction Help Desk at 1-877-273-5572, Mon-Fri, 8 am – 7 pm ET.

  • Who is eligible to buy vehicles on SmartAuction?

    Licensed and approved franchised or independent used-car dealers with financing through Ally or an approved finance source are eligible to buy.

  • Who is responsible for vehicle delivery and shipping costs?

    The buyer is responsible for arranging transportation and any related costs; however, SmartAuction has several transportation providers integrated within the SmartAuction Application:

    • McNutt Automotive Logistics
    • Ready Auto Transport
    • United Road
    • Central Dispatch 
    • ShipCarsNow

    Transportation must be ordered within 5 business days from the purchase date directly from SmartAuction. After that date, the dealer must order transportation outside of the SmartAuction system.

  • How can used car departments benefit from SmartLane?

    SmartLane gives eligible dealers another easy, efficient, and cost-effective way to remarket used vehicles and keep their inventory turning.

  • What do I need to be able to use the SmartAuction® mobile app?

    To use the app, you’ll need:

    • A SmartAuction user ID and password
    • An iPhone® or AndroidTM device
    • A wireless data plan with your mobile carrier or access to a WiFi network
  • What kind of devices are supported with the iPhone® and AndroidTM app?

    • iPhone 4, 4s, and 5 with iOS 5 and 6
    • Android with Jelly Bean and Ice Cream OS
    • iPad® and iPad 2
    • iPod touch® (accessed over WiFi)
  • What is the SmartAuction® mobile app?

    The SmartAuction mobile app is an easy way to keep up with your activity on SmartAuction while on the go. You can search for vehicles, work your bid list and manage your offers – all from your mobile device. Use SmartAuction from your phone through our iPhone® app or our AndroidTM app.

  • Is there a fee to download and use the SmartAuction® mobile app?

    The SmartAuction mobile app is free from Ally, but your wireless carrier’s data and message rates and roaming charges may still apply.

  • What can I do with the SmartAuction® mobile app?

    You can:

    • Search for wholesale vehicles
    • Bid on vehicles and make offers
    • Manage offers (accept, counter, reject and revive)
    • View and update active and held vehicle price and status
  • What if my mobile phone is lost or stolen?

    If your phone is ever lost or stolen, you should notify your carrier right away. No one can get to your SmartAuction® user information without knowing your user ID and password, but you can always reset your login information through the Ally Dealer Portal. If you need help with this process, call us at 1-866-766-4622. You can reach us:

  • Do I need a user ID and password?

    Yes. You'll need your SmartAuction® user ID and password to log in to the SmartAuction mobile app. If you don't have a SmartAuction user ID and password, call us at 1-877-273-5572 to apply for access. You can reach us:

  • My password has failed, or I have forgotten it. What should I do?

    If your password failed, or you forgot your password, call the Ally Auto Dealer Help Desk at 1-866-766-4622. You can reach us:

    8 am – 10 pm ET
    8 am – 8 pm ET
    9 am – 7 pm ET
    Noon – 5 pm ET
  • How do I download the SmartAuction® mobile app to my AndroidTM phone?

    Download our free Android app through Google Play from your phone by searching for SmartAuction.

  • How do I download the SmartAuction® mobile app to my iPhone®?

    Download our free iPhone app through the App Store℠ on your iPhone.

  • What are some of the features of the SmartAuction® mobile app?

    With the SmartAuction mobile app you can:

    • Search nationwide for wholesale vehicles
    • Access vehicle photos from search results and vehicle details screens
    • View comprehensive vehicle details, including condition, damage and disclosures
    • Review price guide book and vehicle history reports
    • Add vehicles to your bid list, to bid on right away or save for later
    • Manage your bid list
    • Place a bid
    • Set an AutoBid amount to automatically increase your bid, up to your maximum amount, to stay on top of the auction
    • Make offers or ask questions on eligible vehicles you’re interested in buying
    • View and take action on pending offers as a buyer or seller (accept, counter, reject, revive)
    • Negotiate offers as a buyer or seller
    • Send private messages to buyers or sellers when an offer is made, countered or revived
    • View and update active and held vehicle price and status for vehicles posted on your desktop application
    • Remove vehicles posted for sale from the auction
  • Can I use all the features of SmartAuction® on the SmartAuction mobile app?

    Our SmartAuction mobile app will allow you to use many of the buying and selling features that you currently use the SmartAuction website. The mobile app can be used to work simultaneously with the SmartAuction website. You will need to continue to use the SmartAuction website to:

    • Create saved searches
    • Manage your profile
    • View messages
    • Access virtual showroom
    • Access customer view email
    • Obtain transportation/shipping estimates
    • Order transportation
    • Map it with Google MapsTM
    • File an arbitration claim
    • Print or email an Authorization report
    • Post or repost a vehicle for sale
    • Access the SmartAuction Auction History Report
  • How do I navigate between the different features that are available on the SmartAuction® mobile app?

    If you’re in the middle of viewing search results or viewing your bid list, simply tap the back button in the upper left corner of your smartphone to get back to the last activity and return to the dashboard. In some cases, it may require you to tap the back button a few times to get to the dashboard.

  • How do I prevent the SmartAuction® mobile app from returning to the first page and first vehicle of Search results every time I select to view Vehicle Details for a vehicle?

    When you select to view vehicle details for a specific vehicle in your search results, the mobile app will return you to the first page of search results when you tap the back button from Vehicle Details. This is not the optimum experience, and we are working to determine the best solution to improve the overall experience in navigating back and forth between search results and vehicle details.
