  • When will I receive my new debit card or checks?

Your debit card and initial check order will arrive in the mail within 10 business days after we receive your opening deposit.

When re-ordering standard checks, after you submit the request your checks should arrive in 10 business days.

Please call us at 1-877-247-2559 if you don't receive your debit card or checks within 10 business days.

  • How do I order checks?

Once you log in to online banking:

    1. Go to the Main Menu  at the top right of the page.
    2. Select Account Services > Checks & Debit Cards.
    3. Review your address and submit your check order.
    4. Your checks should arrive in 10 business days.

There's no charge when you order standard Ally Bank checks for your Interest Checking or Money Market Account.

  • Are my checks always free?

There's no charge when you order standard Ally Bank checks. When you're running low, you can request additional checks online or by calling us. If you'd like to order custom checks, call us at 1-877-247-2559.

  • Will my Ally debit card have a daily purchase limit?

Yes. For your protection, you can use your debit card to make up to $5,000 in purchases a day. If you have special circumstances, and know you'll exceed this amount, call us in advance at 1-877-247-2559 to set up a one-time, extended limit.

  • Can I have one debit card for all of my Ally Bank accounts?

No. You’ll have a separate debit card for each Interest Checking Account or Money Market Account you have with Ally Bank. If you link more than one type of account (such as two Interest Checking accounts) to the same card, you’ll have to choose one account as the primary account. That primary account is the only account you can access with your debit card.

To request a debit card for an existing Interest Checking Account or Money Market Account, call us at 1-877-247-2559.

  • How do I activate my Ally Bank debit card?

Call the Debit Card Activation line at 1-866-633-5293 or 1-770-248-5774. You’ll also see this phone number listed on the sticker on your card. For security purposes you must call from the phone number we have on file for you.

Follow the prompts in the automated telephone system to enter the information below:

    • Last 4 digits of your card number
    • The card expiration date
    • Last 4 digits of your Social Security number

You’ll be prompted to set a PIN if you are activating your card for the first time. When you finish, remove the activation sticker and sign the back of the card.

Call us 24/7 at 1-877-247-2559 if you have questions about activating your card.

  • Is my Ally Bank debit card Personal Identification Number (PIN) different from my Automated Telephone Banking PIN?

Yes. Your debit card PIN is different from your telephone banking PIN unless you’ve made them the same. If you make these numbers the same, please know that when you change one the other is unaffected.

  • What if I forget my debit card PIN?

Call us at 1-877-247-2559 to have a Customer Care Associate reset your PIN. You'll need to provide the last 4 digits of your debit card number and the debit card expiration date.

Once your PIN is reset, you’ll be transferred to our Debit Card Activation line (1-866-633-5293) where you'll be prompted to create a new PIN. For security purposes, you must call from the phone number we have on file for you.

We can also mail a PIN reminder or a new PIN to the address on file within 10 business days.

  • What should I do if my debit card is lost or stolen?

  • How do I get cash back with a debit card purchase?

When you swipe your debit card to pay for a purchase, the card reader will usually ask if you'd like to get cash back. Then you'll be asked to enter the amount and your personal identification number (PIN) – the same one you use for the ATM.

The cash back amount is added to the total price of the transaction. For example, if you buy $18 worth of merchandise and ask for $20 cash back, you will pay a total of $38 ($18 + $20) with your debit card and receive $20 in cash along with your purchases.

  • How do I add my debit card for Apple Pay®?

Open the Wallet app on your iPhone or iPad and follow the instructions. After your debit card information is verified, we’ll send an alert to confirm it’s been successfully added to Apple Pay.

  • What if the phone I use for Apple Pay® gets lost or stolen?

Call us immediately at 1-877-247-2559 and let us know. We’ll take the necessary steps to make sure it can’t be used to make Apple Pay purchases.

  • Which devices can I use with Apple Pay®?

Currently you can use Apple Pay on:

    • iPhone 6®/6s Plus (with iOS 8.1 update)
    • iPad Air 2® and the iPad mini®

You can also use your iPhone 5s to make payments as long as it’s used with the Apple Watch®.

  • How do I use Apple Pay®?

Once you add and verify your Ally Bank debit card information, you’re ready to make a purchase:

    • Hold your device near the merchant’s card reader
    • Select your Ally Bank debit card
    • Authorize the payment using Touch ID or your passcode

You can also use your device to pay within select apps. Simply choose Apple Pay at checkout and place your finger on Touch ID.

  • How do I make my Ally Bank debit card my default payment method for Apple Pay®?

If you added your Ally Bank debit card to Apple Pay first, then it’s already the default payment method. If not, you can change the default card in your Wallet app:

    On iPhone:

    • Select your Ally Bank debit card
    • Hold your finger on the card and drag it to the front of the cards in the Apple Pay section

    On iPad:

    • Select Default Card under Transaction Defaults
    • Choose your Ally Bank debit card
  • How does Apple Pay® protect my debit card information?

Instead of using your debit card number, Apple Pay assigns a unique number to your device that’s used to process purchases. Also, access to Apple Pay is protected by Touch ID ® or a passcode.

If the merchant asks for the last 4 digits of your card after you make a purchase, use the last 4 digits of the Device Account Number. You can find this under your Ally Bank debit card number in your Apple Pay account.
