our commissions and fees.

An affordable approach to investing starts here.

Advisory Fees

Robo Portfolios

Cash-Enhanced Portfolio

0% Advisory Fee

For this portfolio, we set aside 30% as an interest-earning cash buffer.

Market-Focused Portfolio

0.30% Annual Advisory Fee

For this portfolio, we hold roughly 2% as cash and invest roughly 98% in the market. This annual fee equates to $3 for every $1,000 you invest.

Personal Advice

0.75-0.85% Blended Annual Advisory Fee

This fee is based on the funds you’ve invested directly with us, not funds or assets held at other financial institutions.

More on this fee

Keep in mind, each underlying ETF may charge its own internal expense ratio (and other fees and charges) that are separate from our own listed annual advisory fees. These are standard trading expenses and will get deducted from your ETF’s net asset value.

Trading Commissions for Self-Directed Accounts

Stocks and ETFs

$0 Commissions

  • Commission-free trading on eligible U.S. stocks and ETFs

  • Wide selection of commission-free ETFs from market leaders such as Vanguard, GlobalX, iShares, and more – including a selection of socially responsible funds

Low-Priced Securities

We require a minimum opening purchase of $100 per order on OTCBB and pink sheet stocks. We don’t charge commissions for stocks and ETFs priced $2 and higher.

Low-priced securities are charged a $4.95 base commission plus one cent per share on the entire order. We define a low-priced security as any equity below $2.

In general, the maximum commission charge doesn’t exceed 5% of the value of the trade. If the principal value of the order is less than the base, the commission is equal to the full trade value.

Regulatory Fees for Self-Directed Accounts

Options Regulatory Fee (ORF)

$0.02685 per contract (buys and sells)

Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)

$8.00 per $1,000,000 principal (sells only)

Trading Activity Fee (TAF)

$0.000166 per equity share (sells only)

$0.00279 per option contract (sells only)

$0.00105 per bond (sells only)

Trading Activity Fee rates are as follows: Each member shall pay to FINRA: (1) $0.000166 per share for each sale of a covered equity security, with a maximum charge of $8.30 per trade; (2) $0.00279 per contract for each sale of an option; (3) $0.00011 per contract for each round turn transaction of a security future, provided there is a minimum charge of $0.014 per round turn transaction; (4) $0.00105 per bond for each sale of a covered TRACE-Eligible Security (other than an Asset-Backed Security) and/or municipal security, with a maximum charge of $1.05 per trade; and (5) $0.00000105 times the value, as reported to TRACE, of a sale of an Asset-Backed Security, with a maximum charge of $1.05 per trade. In addition, if the execution price for a covered security is less than the Trading Activity Fee rate ($0.000166 for covered equity securities, $0.00279 for covered option contracts, or $0.014 for a security future) on a per share, per contract, or round turn transaction basis then no fee will be assessed.

Mutual Funds

Although each share class represents a similar interest in the mutual fund’s portfolio, the mutual fund will charge you different fees and expenses depending upon your choice of share class. As a rule, Class A shares carry a “front-end” sales charge or “load” that is deducted from your investment at the time you buy fund shares. This sales charge is a percentage of your total purchase.

Note for GTC orders: If we receive partial executions on different trading days, you'll be charged separate commissions.

Bonds and CDs

Ally Invest may act as principal on any fixed-income transaction. When acting as principal, we will add a markup to any purchase and subtract a markdown from every sale. This markup or markdown will be included in the price quoted to you, and you will not be charged any commission or transaction fee for a principal trade.

Service Fees

Index Products – Ally Invest charges this additional per contract cost on certain index products where the exchange charges fees. See a full list of index options that incur additional fees.

Stock Certificate Deposit Processing Fee - Commission on stock certificate deposited into Ally Invest will be equal to 5% of the principal amount of the trade. Stock Certificates cannot be used to fund a new account.

Unit Investment Trust – Other Transfer Agent and Trade Settlement charges for certain securities may be passed through to you by our clearing firm.

Vault Fee - Restricted certificates held for missing paperwork, certificates for securities that are not DTC eligible, etc.

Credit Interest

Cash balances do not currently earn interest. You may request that your account be enrolled in an interest-bearing Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) insured deposit sweep program.  See current yield and additional information
