The "bucket" feature of Ally's Reserve Savings is a game changer!! I set up buckets for those bills that only happen quarterly, annually AND/OR a large purchase. Twice a month I transfer money into the various buckets that I have established. (i.e., insurance, real estate taxes, car purchase, vacation). When the bill or the event happens, the money is already saved and ready to go! No pinching or suffering during the month in which it is due. It has been planned for. It is a great feature!!

It took us a long time to get a healthy 3-6 months of expenses saved up for emergencies. Then it took us a bit longer to stop using our emergency savings for non-emergencies. But we're finally there and a good portion of how we were able to finally get there was because of the savings account from Ally. A good interest rate helps motivate us partly because it feels like a reward and partly because it literally adds to our account. The buckets help us keep track of goals, some of them are goals on their own and others are kind of like water buckets only instead of getting water out of the boat we're adding water TO it (ha!) -- so we will save up a chunk in a bucket and then move it over to our emergency savings; or now that the emergency savings is built up, we'll chunk bucket by bucket into a trip to Europe savings. We also originally did this to start investing (using Ally brokerage, but now we are able to just do an amount to investments monthly -- again, in large part because of the tools Ally has in place to help us first save and then build wealth. Now we're trying to help our friends and family do similarly, either at their own institutions or by switching to Ally for the added support.

The account set up was very quick and easy and managing the account has been seemless. We appreciate competative interest rates and the bucket system makes it simple to save toward specific goals.
